Behind the Scenes: Mash-up Photoshoot

One of the many joys in the world of Raven + Lily is when we are given the opportunity to collaborate on a creative project with other women.  This past Wednesday was one such opportunity of seeing the skills and talents of many amazing women coming together for an Austin Fashion Week photo contest, known as “Mash-up Teams.”  We basically took the challenge to “mash” together a local team of designers/stylists to capture one photo that would be entered into the contest.  Our team consisted of 7 lovely ladies: a designer (Solid Gold by Katie Freedman), a hair stylist (Naomi from Modesty Salon), a model (Gena Petersen), a photographer (Kate Stafford), a jewelry designer (Raven + Lily’s own Lori Fox), a stylist (Candice Duprang) and a make-up artist (Tiffany Schwedland).

I had so much fun taking behind the scenes photos of these ladies in action.  To capture the best light, they met at 4:30 a.m. for make-up/hair and then headed to a gorgeous location on Lake Austin.

Kate and Lori dove right into the water to capture the best shots.

Isn’t Gena breathtaking?  She’s just as beautiful on the inside.  Naomi, Candice and Tiffany did such a great job getting her ready.

I don’t know who is crazier… Kate + Candice for risky photo-taking or me for taking this photo of them!

And then the rain came.  It poured… and it was beautiful!  Everyone fully embraced the rain.

Gena was an amazing model with the best attitude.  We are so thankful that she shared her loveliness with us for this photo contest.

These were all taken from my phone, so you can imagine that the real shots are amazing.  We have to submit just one, and we are having the hardest time deciding!  Stay tuned!

I’m so grateful for all these ladies giving up their morning for this creative venture.  It truly was a joy for me to watch everyone use their gifts and talents to create and capture beauty.

Behind the scenes with the Fantastic Miss Fox

I just discovered a series of photos of Lori Fox, our lead designer, during her last design trip to Ethiopia, Kenya, + India.  I’m thrilled to share a glimpse of Lori through these behind the scenes shots taken by Esther Havens.   Lori is one of the most talented, thoughtful, + creative people on the planet.  Full of wonder + adventure, she’s the kind of gal that is a perfect travel partner because she’s so flexible + patient.  I think these photos capture her cool, calm + collected vibe.  In addition to overseeing the development of our collections, Lori is also the art director + stylist for our photo shoots.  She is indeed fantastic!

Lori heads back to Ethiopia in just a few weeks to develop our Spring collection, and then she’s planning to relocate from LA to Austin to take on the position as our official full time lead designer.  I can hardly wait!

On location in Ethiopia, Kenya, and India

In a few weeks, I’ll post an interview with Lori as she embarks on her next design trip.  I’d love for you to hear more from her heart.  Truly, I am thankful to have the “Fantastic Miss Fox” as part of our team.

Fall/Winter Lookbook

Have you seen our 2011 Fall Lookbook yet?  If not, now is the time to take a peak at our fabulous new collections…available for purchase when we launch our new online store mid August!

One of my favorite images from the new lookbook!

We are so grateful for Sophia Lin, co-founder + CCO, for the beautiful design and layout of our fall lookbook.

And many thanks to the fabulous Esther Havens for all her amazing photographs. Seriously, she is one talented lady, known mainly for her humanitarian photography.

The beautiful wardrobe is from Hero Crane… a gorgeous LA based independent clothing line.  We love their handcrafted collections.

And of course, our fantastic lead designer, Lori Fox, did all the styling and product merchandising for the photos.

In case you are wondering, our models are from Kenya and Ethiopia.  Aren’t they lovely? We shot on location in Ethiopia, India, and my friend Amy Martinez’s home in Kenya.

I’m so thankful for all these amazing women who contributed to the lookbook and the launch of our new website.  What a collaboration of time, talent, and love!
